Employee Spotlight: Mit Saru, Principal Site Reliability Engineer, London

What is your role?

My focus is systems reliability and operations, primarily in Post-Trade. SRE, or Site Reliability Engineering, is an IT Operating framework devised by Google. It has since been adopted by numerous companies including Facebook, Apple, JPMorgan and Netflix.

What attracted you to join MarketAxess?

I was drawn in by the opportunity to implement something from scratch, armed with the knowledge of how to avoid mistakes that I have seen and made in the past. We have a long way to go in our journey to SRE maturity and it's an exciting time to join the company.

What keeps you here?

I love that everyone at MarketAxess is keen to move the organisation forward, and I am really pleased with how collaborative people are. There is a real sense here that people want to innovate and grow, and I think that's great!

How would you describe our culture?

I have never worked anywhere that looks after its employees as well as MarketAxess does. There is a real sense that the staff here are what makes the company, and that is reflected in the great benefits package and the lovely perks we have in the office. There is a positive vibe that resonates throughout the company.

Which of our culture principles resonates the most with you and why?

"We think client first". My first ever job was in customer services and it instilled a really strong sense of listening to what customers or clients need, and adapting myself to best serve them. I think it's really important that we partner with our clients and work with them to innovate and offer them services that they want from us, and to keep ahead of their growth by growing ourselves first.

What makes someone successful here?

I think the real sign of success is the ability to get things done, working through complex problems and coming up with solutions for them.

In my free time, I like to...

Rollerblade. I marshal the London Friday Night Skate and you'll often find me at the front of the skate in hi-vis leading the pack. This involves considerable advance planning, drawing out a route on our mapping software, skating it with a few friends to check that it's smooth enough, making alterations and setting up the social media events. It's a really great way to meet people and we find ourselves partaking in lots of other activities together such as cycling, skiing or going to the opera. In fact, I met my wife while skating and we just got married in June 2022!
