Our employee spotlight series highlights our people spanning many different roles, teams and geographies—each with a unique perspective to share. Lisa Hall works as a Risk Manager for EMEA and APAC, but what she's really passionate about is dedicating her energy to wildlife conservation efforts. Read on to hear about her experience with both!

What is your role at MarketAxess?

My role is to expand risk culture and awareness and embed the Risk Framework within the company. This involves rolling out Risk & Control Self-Assessments to each function to facilitate identifying our business risks. Incident Management is also a large part of my role.

How did you come to MarketAxess, and what made you say "yes" to joining?

My previous CRO had worked with Grant Blackaby, our Head of Risk for EMEA & APAC, and said I would enjoy working with him. Which I do, as we have similar work backgrounds and similar sense of humour.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about wildlife conservation, land and ocean. I have been lucky enough to see Orangutans in the wilds of Borneo and Kalimantan, dragons on Komodo Island and many more endangered species. My husband and I even bought a plot of land in Borneo and planted some trees.

What are people often surprised to know about you?

I was a Manager of a conservation volunteer program in Zimbabwe for 6 months. This entailed looking after volunteers from all over the world and managing the staff and rangers at the sanctuary. And the best bit by far was walking the lion cubs twice a day. It really doesn't get better than that!

What is an interesting project you're working on?

I am in the process of rolling out Risk & Control Self-Assessments throughout the company, which gives me an insight into the different departments and the employees daily processes. As an innovative fintech company, we are always introducing new products for our clients which have to be risk assessed, so there is always something new to learn about.

Which of our culture principles resonates the most with you?

"We are inclusive" is the one that stands out for me the most as I personally believe it and I feel it makes it a nicer and much more interesting environment to work in.

What makes someone who works at MarketAxess successful?

I think being open, collaborative and be able to listen to others and not be afraid to ask questions.

What keeps you at MarketAxess?

It is really a diverse and inclusive company which cares about it's employees. I also feel really valued within my team.

What is something you wish people knew about working at MarketAxess?

Your opinion matters - you can put forward suggestions and they will be listened to and valued. And the effort that the company have made to keep people connected and social throughout the pandemic is fantastic.
